LORD HIGH STEWARD

The position of Lord High Steward is the first of the Great Officers of State in E ngland, ranking above the Lord Chancellor. At coronations of the British monarch, the Lord High Steward bears St Edward's Crown. The Lord High Steward also presides during the trials of peers in the House of Lords.

    Robert was one of the principal followers of Henry the Young King in the Revolt of 1173–1174 against his father Henry II.

  • Robert accompanied King Richard I  of England on the Third Crusade

  • Simon was a French nobleman and soldier who took part in the Fourth Crusade

     SIMON V DE MONTFORT, 6TH EARL OF LEICESTER
  • LIFE-TIME 1208 – 4th August 1265
  • He led the rebellion against King Henry III of England during the Second Barons' War of 1263–64 and was killed by killed by forces loyal to the King Henry III of England in the Battle of Evesham.
  • He married Eleanor of England, daughter of King John and Isabella of Angoulême and sister of King Henry III.
  • Edward was Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports 1264

  • LIFE-TIME 16th January 1245 – 5th June 1296
  • Edward was the second surviving son of Henry III of England and Eleanor of Provence. He was granted all the lands of Simon de Montfort in 1265.

     THOMAS, 2ND EARL OF LANCASTER
  • LIFE-TIME 1278 – 22nd March 1322
  • Thomas was the son of Edmund of Crouch back and was one of the leaders of the baronial opposition to his first cousin, Edward II of England. He despised the royal favourite, Piers Gaveston, He had served in the coronation of his cousin, King Edward II of England carrying Curtana, the sword of Edward the Confessor.

  • LIFE-TIME 1281 – 22nd September 1345
  • Henry was a grandson of King Henry III and was one of the principals behind the deposition of King Edward II. Henry was later appointed "chief advisor" for the new king Edward III of England] and was also appointed captain-general of all the king's forces in the Scottish Marches
  • H was nicknamed Wryneck, or Tort-col in French, possibly due to a medical condition

  • Thomas had been married off as an infant to Lady Margaret Beaufort, granddaughter of John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster, and started his career as an adherent to the Lancastrian Beaufort
  • He was appointed as Steward of the Duchy of Cornwall, and was steward at the coronation of Margaret of Anjou

     JOHN DE LA POLE, 2ND DUKE OF SUFFOLK
  • LIFE-TIME 27th September 1442 – 14~21st May 1492
  • John was the only son and heir to William de la Pole, 1st Duke of Suffolk, and Alice Chaucer,the granddaughter of the poet Geoffrey Chaucer
  • He was acted as Lord Steward at the coronation. Of King Edward IV of England in 1461 and was King's Lieutenant of Ireland March to July 1478

   GEORGE PLANTAGENET, 1ST DUKE OF CLARENCE,
  • LIFE-TIME 21st October 1449 – 18th February 1478
  • George was the brother of King Edward IV of England and the future Richard III. He was also the father of Margaret Pole, on of the last direct line of Plantagenet.
  • He was High Steward for the coronation of Queen consort Elizabeth Woodvillle in 1465.

  • Henry was He is also one of the primary suspects in the disappearance (and presumed murder) of the Princes in the Tower. He was married to Catherine Woodville who was the sister of the Queen consort Elizabeth Woodville.
  • Henry was high Sateward over the trial of George Plantagenet Trial of The Duke of Clarence
  • Henry was executed in November 1483 for his role his alleged role in the Buckingham Rebllion.

LORD GREAT CHAMBERLAINS

The Lord Great Chamberlain is the sixth of the Great Officers of State ranking beneath the Lord Privy Seal and above the Lord High Constable. The Lord Great Chamberlain has charge over the Palace of Westminster . On formal state occasions, he wears a distinctive scarlet court uniform and bears a gold key and a white stave as the insignia of his office.
